Intercropping maize and cowpea boosts wheat yield and farmer profits.
A study looked at how growing different crops before wheat affects its yield. They tested maize, cowpea, and a mix of both. Mixing maize and cowpea increased maize yield and wheat yield. The best results came from growing maize and cowpea together before wheat. This combination gave the highest profits and the most wheat. Adding nitrogen helped wheat grow better, but only up to a certain amount.
