Fisheries management in Western Australia is shifting towards a more integrated approach to sustainably manage fish stocks and habitats. The current sectoral-based management is no longer sufficient to address the growing pressures from population growth and competing user groups. The new approach aims to balance economic, social, and environmental factors by incorporating an allocation-based model within an Ecologically Sustainable Development framework. This will help ensure that fish stocks are conserved while meeting the needs of society.
