Institutional Changes Lead to Decreased Gender Wage Discrimination in Sweden.
Gender wage disparities are influenced by occupational segregation and differences in human capital. Despite controlling for these factors, a significant pay gap between men and women remains, often attributed to wage discrimination. Studies show that this pay gap is smaller in the public sector compared to the private sector, possibly due to equal pay regulations. Changes in wage setting conditions in the Swedish public sector during the 1980s had a significant impact on male-female wage differentials.
