Ancient sea level changes shaped modern Pearl River Delta landscape.
Sea levels in the Pearl River Delta have changed over time, shaping the landscape. 10,000 years ago, the sea level was much lower, creating deep river valleys. As sea levels rose, deposits formed the delta base. 6000 years ago, the sea level reached near today's level, ending upstream deposition. The area had shallow bays and rocky islands. The deltaic coastline extended from Daojiao to Shafu.
