Salt-tolerant roughages boost fish growth in brackish water polyculture.
The study looked at how different types of fish grow in salty water when fed a mix of special food and tough plants. They tested four kinds of fish: Thaila, Silver carp, Grass carp, and Common carp in ponds with salty water for 11 months. The fish were given food with 20% protein made from rice, maize, sunflower, and fish meal. Some fish were fed a mix of special food and tough plants, while others only got the plants. All fish did well with the food and plants, but some grew bigger than others. Thaila fish grew the biggest and produced the most fish, followed by Silver carp, Grass carp, and Common carp. Grass carp had the highest survival rate. Using tough plants with special food can help fish grow well in salty water and save money on food.
