Bhalum 3 rice variety boosts yields and profits in Mizoram uplands
A study in Mizoram looked at how different types of rice respond to different levels of nitrogen. They found that the rice variety 'Bhalum 3' grew the tallest and produced the most dry matter when given 90 kg of nitrogen per hectare. This variety also had the highest number of panicles per square meter, filled grains per panicle, grain and straw yield, and nitrogen uptake. Increasing nitrogen levels helped with these factors, but only up to 90 kg per hectare. The best results were seen with 'Bhalum 3' at 90 kg of nitrogen per hectare, making it the ideal combination for upland rice in the area.
