European identity remains weak despite EU enlargement efforts.
The article examines how people in Europe feel about the EU and if they identify as European. It uses surveys to see how citizens from different countries view the EU and if they are willing to get involved in European matters. The study shows that most people feel more connected to their own country than to the EU. People in older and newer EU countries have similar levels of attachment to the EU symbols. Many Europeans don't know much about how the EU works. This means that the process of European integration isn't doing much to create a strong European identity.
