Abundance of Benthic Species in Chilika Lagoon Indicates Stable Ecosystem.
The study looked at the types and amounts of small creatures living in Nalaban Island in Chilika Lagoon. They found that snails were the most common, followed by clams, isopods, worms, and tiny shrimp. The community of these creatures seemed stable and not stressed by the environment. The different areas of the island had similar types of creatures living there. Snails and isopods were closely related in numbers. The mollusks varied more within their own species than between different areas.
