Foreign currency debt puts Hungarian corporations at risk of default and investment decline.
The study found that many companies in Hungary have taken out loans in foreign currencies without protecting themselves from exchange rate changes. Before the crisis, these companies struggled to repay their debts. During the crisis, when the exchange rate dropped, these companies had even more trouble. They were more likely to default on their loans, invest less, and find it harder to get new loans.
