State Juries May Impose Punitive Damages for Out-of-State Conduct: Supreme Court Decision.
The Supreme Court is looking at whether a state can give punitive damages for bad behavior that happened in other states, and if reducing a high punitive damages award is fair. Punitive damages are extra money given to punish someone for really bad actions and to stop them from doing it again. Different states have different rules for when and how much punitive damages can be given. The Court has been trying to figure out what is too much money for punitive damages and if it's fair for someone to face multiple big punishments for the same actions.
