Revolutionizing Drinking Water in Indonesia's Coastal Areas with Membrane Technology!
Researchers in Indonesia studied how to improve the treatment of brackish water in coastal areas to make it safe for drinking. They used a combination of Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane with an air lift system as a pretreatment before Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane. This method helped to reduce fouling of the RO membrane and produced stable drinking water with high quality. The UF–air lift system pretreatment, followed by RO membrane-low pressure operation, successfully removed 96–98% of total dissolved solids and 99–100% of color from the brackish water source. This approach could be a cost-effective solution for providing clean drinking water in Indonesia's coastal regions.
