New study finds Phragmites silage could replace corn feed for livestock.
The experiment compared the taste and feeding of Phragmites prosturatus silage with corn silage. The Phragmites prosturatus silage had higher protein content and good quality. Its organic acid and pH levels were similar to corn silage, indicating good quality. The taste and body weight of animals fed Phragmites prosturatus silage were similar to those fed corn silage. Therefore, Phragmites prosturatus silage can be used as a substitute for corn silage in animal feed.
