Hormone-blocking surgeries extend life for advanced cancer patients
Cancer of the breast and prostate gland can depend on sex hormones. Adrenalectomy or hypophysectomy, along with cortisone treatment, can help prolong the survival of patients when hormone therapy fails. Both operations have reasonable risks, and cortisone maintenance is straightforward. Results suggest that hypophysectomy may be more beneficial. Early operation in the disease's progression could be advisable.
