Intercropping maize with mungbean boosts yields and profits in Uttar Pradesh.
A study was conducted in central Uttar Pradesh to find the best way to grow maize with urdbean or mungbean. Different planting methods were tested, and it was found that planting maize in uniform rows with mungbean as an intercrop in a specific ratio gave the highest maize yield and productivity. Intercropping two rows of urdbean and mungbean with maize also proved beneficial, with higher land use efficiency. The most productive and profitable system was planting maize in uniform rows with mungbean in a specific ratio, resulting in the highest maize yield, net returns, and benefit-cost ratio.
