Deadly Bacterial Disease Threatens Louisiana Bell Pepper Crops.
Bacterial leaf spot affected bell pepper plants in Louisiana due to Xanthomonas euvesicatoria races 1 and 3. The researchers collected diseased leaves, isolated bacteria, and confirmed their identity as Xanthomonas spp. The bacteria caused necrotic leaf spots, chlorosis, and leaf drop, but no fruit symptoms were observed. The bacteria induced a hypersensitive response in tobacco plants. This study helps understand the cause of bacterial leaf spot in bell peppers in Louisiana.
