A new energy storage system using CaO can help IGCC plants generate power efficiently while capturing carbon. By improving the storage configurations, the system can increase the plant's flexibility without cycling the gasifier. Different setups were tested, showing that the system can adjust power output by 20-25% while still capturing 90% of CO2 emissions. Improving particle reactivity and heat recuperation had the biggest impact on efficiency.
