Wastewater treatment plants effluent could revolutionize restricted irrigation practices.
Wastewater treatment plants in Isfahan were studied to see if their effluent could be used for restricted irrigation. The researchers tested the quality of the effluent by analyzing parameters like BOD5, COD, pH, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and more. They found that while some parameters met environmental standards, they did not meet EPA standards. The north plant had good levels of boron and sodium absorption ratio for irrigation, but the south plant had better levels of boron and SAR. Proper operation and disinfection of the treatment plants can provide suitable effluent for agricultural use.
