Sheep thrive on diet with 60% bajra straw, revolutionizing livestock nutrition.
Researchers evaluated the use of bajra straw in sheep feed. They tested three different feed ratios and found that sheep can effectively be fed with complete feed containing up to 60% bajra straw without negative effects on nutrient utilization. The sheep showed similar intake and digestion of nutrients across all three diets, with higher digestibility of NFE in the 40% straw diet. Sheep fed with 40% straw had higher intake of DCP and TDN per kg body weight. All sheep maintained positive balances of nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. The average daily weight gain was also similar across all three diets, indicating that bajra straw can be a good component of sheep feed.
