Researchers studied different intercropping systems with maize in Punjab to increase production and economic viability. They found that intercropping maize with blackgram or greengram resulted in higher yields than growing maize alone. Maize paired with one row of greengram had the highest water-use efficiency. This shows that intercropping can improve resource utilization and overall crop productivity in the region.
