Trade Integration in South-East Europe Lagging Behind, Urgent Action Needed.
Trade integration in South-East Europe, especially in the former Yugoslav Republics, is not as advanced as it was for other countries in the region in the 1990s. The current network of bilateral trade agreements has not significantly boosted trade integration within the region. Many countries in the region have small trade patterns and rely heavily on trade with their old Yugoslav neighbors. Extending the Customs Union with Turkey to include trade with all South East European countries linked to the EU is seen as a more effective solution than expanding the current bilateral trade agreements.
