A study was conducted in Rajasthan to improve maize-wheat cropping by adding pulses. The maize + blackgram (2:2)wheat system had the highest yields and profits, making it the most effective. Clusterbeanwheat had the best benefit-cost ratio. Maize + blackgram (2:2)wheat had the highest energy output, while maizebarley was the most energy-intensive. Maizewheat had the highest energy productivity, and clusterbeanwheat had the highest specific energy. Adding pulses to the maize-wheat system can increase productivity and profits.
