Gender inequality in literacy hinders growth in Sub-Saharan Africa and Arab countries.
Gender inequality in literacy negatively impacts economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa and Arab countries. The higher the gender inequality in literacy, the more it hinders income growth, especially in Arab nations. Interestingly, in more open economies, gender inequality in literacy can actually lead to increased growth, but also greater inequalities. On the other hand, the impact of gender inequality in primary and secondary school enrollment on economic growth is less consistent.
