Urea-treated rice straw boosts nutrient intake and digestibility in cattle.
The researchers studied how feeding heifers urea-treated wheat and rice straws in restricted and ad lib amounts affected their nutrient intake and digestibility. They found that heifers ate more when given ad lib rice straw compared to wheat straw. The digestibility of certain nutrients differed between restricted and ad lib feeding, but was similar at the same feeding level. Overall, the digestibility of acid detergent fiber and crude protein was consistent across all treatments.
