Densified dry grass boosts nutrient utilization and growth in calves.
Densifying dry grass with urea and molasses did not significantly affect nutrient intake or growth in crossbred calves compared to feeding them unprocessed dry grass. The addition of urea increased protein content in the grass. Both groups of calves had similar daily intake and digestibility of nutrients. The average daily gain in weight was slightly higher in the group fed unprocessed grass, but the difference was not significant. The study showed that densified grass can be stored for three months without losing its nutritional value.
