Gender disparities and social ties shape self-employment in Taiwan
The article examines self-employment in Taiwan using data from a survey. It shows that Taiwan's flexible job market and strong family connections lead to many people being self-employed. Different types of self-employment exist, with unskilled workers often forced into it due to poor job conditions, while skilled workers choose it for better financial opportunities. Women are less likely to be self-employed than men, and family connections play a big role in entering professional self-employment.
