Increased insulin receptors in diabetic rats lead to impaired glucose metabolism.
The study looked at how insulin works in fat cells of diabetic rats. They found that the cells had more insulin receptors, but were less sensitive to insulin. This means that even though there were more "doors" for insulin to enter the cells, the cells weren't responding to insulin as well as they should. The problem seems to be more about how the cells use glucose rather than how they take it in.
