New study shows pelleted sorghum straw boosts sheep and goat nutrition!
The researchers studied how different ways of processing sorghum straw affected sheep and goats' digestion and nutrient intake. They fed chopped, ground, and pelleted straw to the animals along with a concentrate mixture. The animals ate more and drank more water when given pelleted straw. The digestion of nutrients was better with pelleted straw compared to chopped or ground straw. Goats digested nutrients better than sheep. Both sheep and goats had positive balances of nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus.
