Researchers in Kyushu, Japan aimed to find a way to grow more forage crops year-round to reduce feeding costs for cows. They tested planting three rounds of maize along with winter barley. Winter barley and early-planted spring maize had good yields, but autumn maize was affected by bad weather. Overall, planting triple maize with winter barley can produce high yields, especially when spring maize is planted early in March. This method can help farmers in Kyushu grow more forage crops without worrying about weather disasters.
