High genetic potential in cotton hybrids could revolutionize crop yields!
The study looked at genetic variability in upland cotton hybrids. They found that lint yield, seed cotton yield, number of sympodia per plant, and plant height are influenced by additive gene action. Lint yield and plant height are positively correlated with seed cotton yield, while days to first flowering and days to 50% boll opening are negatively correlated. Lint yield has the most direct and indirect impact on cotton improvement programs.
