Ammoniated paddy straw leads to weight loss in cattle and buffaloes.
The researchers studied how cattle and buffaloes digest and use nutrients from ammoniated paddy straw. They fed the animals treated straw and found that it increased their food intake. Both species digested the nutrients similarly, but they didn't get enough nitrogen, causing them to lose weight. The treated straw didn't provide enough protein for maintenance. The animals consumed more energy than needed, and the treated straw had low protein and digestible nutrients.
