A study was conducted to see how using Sunhemp plants as green manure affects rice and wheat crops. The researchers found that green manuring with Sunhemp increased rice and wheat yields. Adding nitrogen to the crops also boosted wheat production significantly. Sunhemp green manuring increased soil microbial nitrogen levels, which are important for plant growth. The amount of wet soil ammoniacal nitrogen decreased as the rice crop aged, but applying nitrogen fertilizer increased it. Overall, using Sunhemp as green manure can improve crop productivity and soil health in rice-wheat cropping systems.
