Income inequality linked to poorer health, social trust key mediator.
The income inequality hypothesis was tested using different methods on data from 1981 to 2014. Results showed that income inequality can affect health, with social trust playing a key role. Some methods showed income inequality linked to better health, while others linked it to poorer health. The most supportive evidence came from pseudo panel data, suggesting income inequality can harm people's health when confounding factors are carefully considered.
