Fire suppression not significantly altering natural fire cycle in Ontario's boreal forest.
Fire suppression in Ontario's boreal forest may not have significantly changed the natural fire cycle. Researchers analyzed fire data from 1921 to 1995 in different regions with and without aggressive fire suppression. They found no clear evidence that fire suppression altered the fire cycle in the boreal forest. In some areas, fire cycle increased with less protection, while in others, the most protected areas had the shortest fire cycle. Overall, there is insufficient empirical evidence to support the idea that fire suppression has had a major impact on the fire regime in Ontario's boreal forest.
