Maize-legume intercropping boosts yields and profits for farmers in Pakistan.
Maize and legume crops were grown together with different types of fertilizers to see which combination gave the best yields. The study found that using a mix of poultry manure, PK fertilizer, and inoculation resulted in the highest maize grain yield and overall plant yield. The number of rows per ear, grains per row, and 1000-grain weight were also highest with this fertilizer combination. Intercropping maize with mashbean gave the highest profit compared to growing maize alone. The study suggests that using a mix of organic, biofertilizers, and chemical fertilizers can increase productivity and income for maize farmers.
