The article discusses how uncertainties in engineering design can be addressed using Reliability Based Design Optimization (RBDO) and Possibility Based Design Optimization (PBDO) methods. These methods help achieve conservative design results, especially when using less accurate analysis tools. The researchers applied these methods to an aircraft conceptual design case and found that RBDO results depend on uncertain parameters' accuracy, while PBDO results are more conservative.
