The flame ionization detector's response to perfluorinated carboxylic acids was compared to the thermal conductivity detector's response. The efficiency of the flame ionization detector for analyzing these acids was evaluated using hydrocarbon analogs. Variations in the flame ionization detector's response were observed and possible explanations were discussed.
