Climate change causing 75% decrease in water flow in Chinese reservoir.
The study looked at how changes in climate and land use affected water flow in Wangkuai Reservoir watershed in China. By using a computer model, the researchers found that between 1958 and 2007, the amount of water flowing into the reservoir decreased by 75.04%. They also discovered that from 1985 to 2007, a warmer and drier climate reduced the annual water flow by 64.22%. Changes in land use, like less forest and more farmland, also played a role in decreasing water flow. Overall, the study showed that climate change was the main reason for the decrease in water flow in the reservoir.
