Groundwater levels respond to rainfall with 3-month lag, impacting water supply.
Groundwater levels in Kumamoto Plain respond to rainfall with a time lag of about 10 days for wells 70-80 meters deep, and about 3 months for the overall groundwater level. The researchers used a method based on periodic waves to analyze the relationship between rainfall and groundwater recharge. The amount of groundwater recharge directly affects the groundwater level. These findings support the pressure transmission theory as a key mechanism for groundwater recharge.
