Shading in rice fields boosts nutrient absorption, improving crop yield.
The researchers studied how shading and hydrogen sulphide affected the absorption of nutrients by rice plants. Shading reduced the uptake of some nutrients like calcium and water, but increased the uptake of potassium and silicon. Hydrogen sulphide also decreased nutrient absorption, with a lesser effect under shaded conditions. These results suggest that strong light can disrupt the root's normal functions, especially in hot weather, leading to less uptake of certain nutrients.
