New PCR Methods Detect Allergenic Peach and Apple in Processed Foods
Researchers developed two PCR methods to specifically detect allergenic peach and apple in foods. The peach PCR identified peach DNA in various peach cultivars but not in other species, while the apple PCR detected apple DNA in different apple cultivars but not in other species. Both methods successfully detected peach and apple DNA in spiked strawberry jam and cookies at low levels. This means that these methods can effectively identify even small traces of peach or apple contamination in processed foods.
