Gender wage gap wider in private sector, impacting bottom earners most.
The gender wage gap was studied in Mauritius, comparing the public and private sectors. Data from 2006 to 2013 showed that women earn less than men in both sectors, but the gap is wider in the private sector. The wage difference is more significant at lower income levels, indicating a "sticky floor" effect. Discrimination plays a bigger role in the private sector than in the public sector. This research sheds light on gender wage disparities in Mauritius, contributing to the limited literature on this topic in Africa.
