Ancient flood control methods revived to protect Shin River communities.
The study looks at how flood control has been managed on the Shin River in comparison to the Shonai River. The Shin River acts like a branch channel for flood diversion, with its tributary basin controlled by ring levees and river land. This method of flood control was used during the Edo era but stopped in the Meiji era. Despite this change, the flow of floodwater from the Shonai River into the Shin River has continued.
