Stated preference models overestimate new rail station alternative, impacting transportation planning.
The researchers looked at how accurate models predicting people's transportation choices were before and after a new rail station opened in Hiroshima. They found that the models based on people's stated preferences were too optimistic about how many would use the new option. To fix this, they tried three methods to update the models. The best results came from adjusting the stated preference data using transfer price information.
