Sorghum farmers face food insecurity due to poor postharvest handling.
The study looked at how farmers handle sorghum grains after harvesting. They surveyed 88 farmers in six sorghum-growing areas to see how they dry and store the grains. The results showed that farmers prefer local sorghum varieties over improved ones. They store the grains either shelled or on panicles, but mold can be a problem. Farmers keep a variety of sorghum types to reduce losses from storage and pests. This information can help explain why there are food shortages in these areas, even though sorghum can be a good crop there.
