Opposition parties unite for electoral success against authoritarian regimes.
Opposition parties in Singapore's 2015 elections worked together to decide who should run in which areas to challenge the ruling party. By cooperating, they aimed to have a better chance of winning seats and pushing for changes in the government. This study shows that when opposition parties form agreements on where to compete or step aside, they can have a stronger impact in authoritarian elections. In Singapore, the Workers' Party and the National Solidarity Party clashed over these coordination efforts during the 2015 elections.
