Deadly Indian Monsoons Drive Farmers to Increase Goat Herds by 23%
The article explores how Indian farmers deal with more intense monsoon seasons due to global warming. By analyzing rainfall data from 304 weather stations, the researchers found that as the monsoon climate intensifies, farmers increase the number of goats they own. A 50% increase in monsoon intensity leads to a 23% increase in goat ownership. On the other hand, sheep ownership decreases with more intense monsoon rainfall but increases with warmer non-monsoon temperatures. This study sheds light on how farmers adapt to the deadly monsoon climate system in India.
