Shading soybean plants boosts photosynthesis, potentially increasing crop yields.
The study looked at how shading affects the photosynthetic properties of soybean leaves. They found that lower light intensity decreased the photosynthetic capacity of the leaves, while stopping shading helped recover it. Shading early in leaf growth had a bigger impact on photosynthesis than shading later. The leaves' respiratory activity decreased with shading but increased when shading stopped.
