New method accurately estimates water flow in forested watersheds.
Researchers developed a method to separate rainfall interception, evaporation, transpiration, and non-overland flow in forested watersheds. They used temperature, humidity, sunshine duration, and rainfall data to create a model. By analyzing storm data, they found that for a heavy storm with 391mm of rainfall, 18% was intercepted, 52% became overland flow, and 30% was non-surface flow.
