New Zealand abalones grow faster and larger, impacting local marine ecosystems.
The growth rates of three types of abalone in New Zealand were studied. They used different methods like length analysis and tagging to estimate growth. For one type, they found a growth coefficient of 0.31 and a maximum length of 146.2 mm. Another type had a growth coefficient of 0.32 and a maximum length of 86.75 mm. The third type had growth coefficients of 0.45 and 0.32, with maximum lengths of 61.5 mm and 64.4 mm from different places. Only one type had a complete growth curve calculated.
