Photosynthesis creates oxygen by splitting water in photosystem II. Different chlorophyll pairs in photosynthetic reaction centers have varying abilities to lose an electron. P680 has a high electron loss potential, while P700 and P870 have lower potentials. Calculations using a specific equation accurately predict these differences.
